Benny Sings: KCRW Live from Apogee Studio

Intimate performances, fresh sounds, and candid conversations with a view.

Dutch melodist Benny Sings has been crafting trippy, feel-good ditties ever since he was a De La Soul-obsessed hip-hop beat maker in the 1990s. The craftsmanship has deepened over the decades, but his prolifically playful approach has remained intact. We’re stoked to have him Live From Apogee Studio on vocals and guitar alongside his megawatt band — Aubrey Haddard (vocals), Nick Frenay (trumpet), Adam Bar-Pereg (keys), Charley Ruddell (bass), and Colin Vermeulen (drums) — tearing through cuts from the acclaimed 2023 LP Young Hearts. The album’s gleeful title track, the poignant “Movie Star” and breakout hit “Pyjamas,” featuring Haddard on vocals, are all in the offering. Dig in via the video link above.
