Los Angeles today recorded its highest temperature since record-keeping began back in 1877. It was 113 degrees downtown — two degrees lower than Death Valley — and more than 105 at the beaches. The good news is there is not much wind, but firefighters and equipment have been installed where fire danger is greatest.
