Will Soccer Sweep Southern California?

We may call it soccer but internationally it's known as football, and it's month-long World Cup playoff opened today in South Korea with first-time contender Senegal beating the defending French champions. While the championship matches are broadcast repeatedly across the globe, the championship games are carried by none of the major US networks. Will the world's most popular game is ready to gain a Southern California foothold? We find out from the assistant coach of the LA Galaxy, a soccer mother on the board of the American Youth Soccer Organization, and another who writes a sports column. Managing Editor Kyle McKinnon guest hosts. Reporter's Notebook #1: Police Magnet Schools Graduate Third Class While at other LA high school teens study math and English, cadets at the district's police academy magnet schools learn forensics and crime prevention. Last night, the magnet academy graduated its third class. Executive Director Roberta Weintraub expects that many of the 90 graduates will soon be heading to the LAPD. Reporter's Notebook #2: Pasadena's New Museum of California Art On Saturday, June 1, Southern California will celebrate the grand opening of the Pasadena Museum of California Art, a $ 5 million, three-story home to architecture, design and art, dating from 1850 to the present. Executive Director Wesley Jessup has more on the museum's mission, make-up and opening exhibition.
