On his 75th birthday, Cardinal Roger Mahony retired yesterday as Archbishop of Los Angeles and turned America's largest Roman Catholic Archdiocese over to José Gomez, recently the Bishop of San Antonio. There were masses in both English and Spanish at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, which overflowed with the faithful.
