New Leadership for America's Largest Sheriff's Department

Next month, LA County voters will elect a new sheriff. We’ll talk with Jim McDonnell, the Long Beach Police Chief, who got 49.4% in the primary. Can he reform what one judge called a “corrupt culture”—infamous for the excessive force and jailhouse brutality that led to a federal consent decree?

Next month, LA County voters will elect a new sheriff and one candidate, Paul Tanaka, has stopped campaigning. We’ll talk with Jim McDonnell, the Long Beach Police Chief, who got 49.4% in the primary. Can he reform what one judge called a “corrupt culture”—infamous for the excessive force and jailhouse brutality that led to a federal consent decree? How will he cope with the Board of Supervisors, which controls his budget?

Also, investors from China are buying up real estate in Southern California. They like the flat land of Arcadia, where multi-million dollar mansions are becoming the norm.
