Los Angeles City Council Winners

There-s something old and something new at City Hall. Two races constituted a sort of referendum on two members leaving the council, both of whom were trying to anoint successors from their own offices. One was successful. One was not. The new blood is labor-s Martin Ludlow who beat Deron Williams, an aide to City Councilman Nate Holden. The old blood in the northeast San Fernando Valley's 12th District, where Greig Smith, an aide to Councilman Hal Bernson, managed to beat Julie Korenstein and keep the seat in the political family. Managing editor Kyle McKinnon speaks with members-elect Smith and Ludlow about how they plan to wield power on the 15 member LA City Council. Making News: NFL Considering Carson for Pro Football Stadium The National Football League hasn't had a presence in the nation's second largest TV market since the departure of the Raiders and Rams the end of the 1994 season. Now, the NFL is determined to place a professional team in Southern California. Pasadena is stunned to find Carson neck-and-neck as it vies to win the NFL-s favor. Reporter Billy Witz is attending the NFL owners' meetings in Philadelphia for the LA Daily News. Reporter-s Notebook: Mighty Ducks Add to Anaheim-s Luster in First Stanley Cup Final Lord Stanley-s Cup is the ultimate prize in the National Hockey League. Never before have the Mighty Ducks had a chance to claim the trophy, but tonight they find themselves in the NHL finals. Marcia Smith, sports reporter and columnist for the Orange County Register, says that Anaheim and all of Orange County are reveling in Mighty Duck Fever and another history-making season.
