For the first time since the era of school reform began, the Los Angeles Unified School District has accepted a petition from angry parents demanding "immediate and significant" change in a public school. Kids at 24th Street Elementary score just 30 percent in reading and 35 percent in Math. Elsewhere, the "parent trigger" has provoked much bitterness among parents and confrontations in court.
