You might never have heard of Leonis and Dominica Malburg — both in their 80's — but their conviction of fraud and conspiracy is big news in the City of Vernon, an industrial town of less than 100 people in southeast Los Angeles County. Malburg's grandfather founded Vernon, and Malburg was Mayor and City Councilman for more than 50 years. But he and Dominica were convicted of an elaborate scheme to show that they actually lived there, when they really lived someplace else. Hector Becerra reported on last week's trial for the LA Times.
