Democratic Support, GOP Opposition to Props 57 and 58

Hosted by
The first TV spot for Propositions 57 and 58 shows Republican Governor Schwarzenegger and Democratic Controller Steve Westly literally completing each others sentences. But polls show that bipartisan spirit has not caught on with the voters. Schwarzenegger got a boost today from Senator Dianne Feinstein and the leadership of the state-s Democratic Party, which endorsed Props 57 and 58 on next month-s ballot. But neither California voters nor Republican State Senator Tom McClintock are going along with Schwarzenegger-s financial rescue package for California, and the Democrat who defeated McClintock to become State Controller is on Schwarzenegger-s side. We hear from a Democrat who agrees with the Governor and a Republican who does not.

That-s just one reason that tonight-s Olympic qualifying game has aroused so much national attention. Sergio Sarmiento, commentator for Mexico's TV Azteca and an avid soccer fan, says that for Mexican soccer fans, it's also an issue of national honor.
