It’s been a busy week for the Governor, and his pen.

Jerry Brown signed a number of contentious bills in to law—from climate change, to equal pay and medical-aid-in-dying.

He also signed a solar incentive bill for low-income renters and a coal divestment bill that requires California’s two biggest public pension funds—CalPERS and CalSTRS—to sell their stocks in coal companies.

But the big Sacramento news this week actually came down here in Los Angeles, where Brown signed an ambitious renewable energy bill at the Griffith Observatory.

It also wasn’t exactly what the governor wanted, after a big fight from big oil. Is he prepared to go toe-to-toe with them again?

KQED’s Politics Editor John Myers joined us from Sacramento to help make sense of it all.
