Karl Lagerfeld died today. He was 85. His career spanned seven decades, and he’s credited with turning Chanel from a struggling brand into a fashion powerhouse. He also designed for Fendi, Chloe, and his own line. Up until his death, he was designing some 14 new collections a year. He was also one of the most quoted men in fashion: “Chic is a kind of mayonnaise. Either it tastes, or it doesn’t” and “Sweatpants are a sign of defeat.”
