Jordanian airstrikes hammered ISIS targets in Syria today. The strikes are in retaliation for the murder of a Jordanian pilot by Islamic State jihadists. The militants burned the captured pilot alive. And a new UN report says ISIS is systematically killing, torturing and raping Iraqi children. Brutality has become a hallmark of the Islamic State. But just over a year ago, few people knew about the group. Long-time foreign correspondent Patrick Cockburn has a new book out that tracks the swift rise of ISIS.
