Satao, thought to be one of the world’s largest living elephants, has been found dead, shot with a poisoned arrow, in Kenya’s Tsavo National Park. It’s estimated that more than 20,000 elephants were killed by poachers in Africa in 2013, and that number is actually down from the previous year. Most of the raw ivory taken by poachers ends up in China. But the US is the world’s second largest market -- and California in particular is a big destination for contraband ivory products. We take a look at the Ivory market. Why has the demand for ivory increased lately?
