But people are doing it anyway -- renting out their home or their retrofitted garages to visitors. In Silver Lake, the issue has become particularly contentious, with neighbors tattling on neighbors for violating the law. Now a new slate of candidates for the upcoming Silver Lake Neighborhood Council elections is campaigning as pro-Airbnb.
