End of the “Kabubble”

Four years ago, Afghanistan’s capital city of Kabul was known as the “Kabubble.” Diplomats, aid workers and journalists from around the world flocked there for easy money, career opportunities and a decadent social scene. It was a thriving oasis in an otherwise war-torn country. But in the past year and a half, a sudden wave of violence against foreign civilians has killed off or scared away many expatriates. That, along with our ongoing military withdrawal from Afghanistan, has left Kabul a virtual ghost town.
