The Emmy nominations are out today. Twenty-six nominations go to HBO’s superhero limited series “Watchmen,” starring Regina King and Jeremy Irons. They’re nominated for lead actress and lead actor, respectively. Since the pandemic and the Black Lives Matter protests, “Watchmen” has been put back on the radar. But Hollywood has also gotten more serious about its diversity failures.
In the limited series category: Hugh Jackman, Cate Blanchett, Octavia Spencer, and even Shira Haas for the Netflix series “Unorthodox.” Does Haas stand a chance?
“The Mandalorian” made the drama series category. Did anyone see that coming?
In comedy, a fun edition is FX’s vampire comedy “What We Do in the Shadows.” But another quirky FX show, “Dave,” isn’t nominated.
The 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and air September 20 on ABC.
