Shoe making may not be rocket science, but crafting a ‘stiletto that feels like a wedge’ is. That’s the goal of Thesis Couture, a high-end shoe company, whose design team includes a rocket scientist and a former astronaut. Their first line of heels will be available to the public in the Fall; and the sticker price? Nearly $1,000 a pair. Even with that high retail price, 10,000 people have signed up on a waiting list to buy a pair. Why is there such a clamor to pay for a heel that feels like a wedge? And why are heels still so popular?
