It’s been nearly a month since a gunman killed six UC Santa Barbara students in Isla Vista. It happened just over a year since three people were shot and killed right here at Santa Monica College. And of course there’s Newtown, Columbine, Virginia Tech and so many more. The mass shootings often last only minutes, but the families of the victims have to deal with the fallout forever. Slate senior editor Emily Bazelon recently met with a group of surviving family members who’ve lobbied for tighter gun control rules.
