The City of LA is encouraging the construction of accessory dwelling units (ADUs) in the backyards of Angelenos' homes. Officials see these so-called ‘granny flats’ as a scalable way of building lots of new housing without disrupting neighborhoods. But some say ADUs are too costly and difficult to permit and build.
