For bestselling author Max Brooks, making the leap from vampires and zombies to a work of non-fiction about World War One wasn't that drastic. Whether it's World War Z or The Zombie Survival Guide, his books have always found realistic touchstones in the surreal. His latest graphic novel, The Harlem Hellfighters, is about a troop of African American soldiers during World War One who overcame tremendous discrimination, even from their own government, and became one of the most decorated units in the entire US Army. Brooks talks about the project's long and uncertain development, and how a meeting with LeVar Burton turned the entire project around.
