We’re celebrating our mothers this weekend, and to honor them we turn to the timeless singer Alex Cuba, who pays tribute to his own mother and the work she puts into her delicious dinners, to which no one else comes close. Not only did he write the song for her, but Alex invites his mama to sing with him on “No Cocina Cualquiera”
“No Cocina Cualquiera” (or “Not Just Anyone Cooks” in English) “speaks to a nostalgia for the flavors and taste of the past, especially when we move far from home,” shares Cuba. “When we emigrate, many things will never be the same and will become only a memory. This happened to me with my mother’s chicken, which I used to love, love, love! And after being in Canada for three years, I tasted her cooking and it just wasn't the same. I wrote this song to honor the memory and special feeling my mother’s cooking still gives me, even though it can't be recreated.”
