Despite landing as a legitimate surprise on Friday, Nov. 22, Kendrick Lamar’s GNX gathered enough spins in just three days to comfortably debut at no. 3 among KCRW’s Top 30 most played records of the week. With a bit more lead time, it probably would have made it all the way to the top, but instead that distinction lies with British soul maven Yazmin Lacey and her effervescent new single “The Feels.” Also worth noting is the staggering staying power of Jamie xx, whose In Waves sits at no. 2 for the second week in a row. This also marks the album’s tenth overall appearance in the top five which is a remarkably impressive feat for an album that’s been out since September.
New and notable: The Red Hot organization’s TRANSA compilation, supporting trans rights and featuring selections from Sade Adu, André 3000, Beverly Glenn-Copeland and many many more hits the chart running by securing the no. 11 spot. Plus, if you want to keep poking at those glowing embers for the future of humanity, check out the final spot on the list for the Reverend Al Green’s gospelized cover of R.E.M’s “Everybody Hurts.”
