KCRW's Top 30: Album of the year arrives, Gabriels greet 2022 with a soul stomper, and more

In perhaps the least surprising turn of events imaginable, Toro y Moi’s 7th studio album “MAHAL” is out in full, and it’s racing past everything else on offer. And the collective affinity for gently swirling psychedelia is clear elsewhere throughout the list, as Aussie vibe-meisters The Lazy Eyes, and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard both move up several spots.

That’s not to say the chart is a total psych-fest this week, far from it. Our beloved Gabriels present their first single of 2022, and it’s a full-blown soul stomper aiming directly for the rafters. HAAi returns to the fold as excitement mounts for her rapidly approaching album “Baby, We’re Ascending.” And London-based, avant-jazz instrumentalist Ben Marc arrives at last.
