Venerable avant-pop outfit Stereolab are back on the road this year with an extensive European and North American tour, including an LA stop at the Bellwether on Oct. 25. To celebrate, we’ve unearthed the band’s debut appearance on Morning Becomes Eclectic on September 8, 1994, available for the first time since its recording for your listening pleasure.

Fresh off their month-long stint on that year’s Lollapalooza, co-founder Laetitia Sadier and Tim Gane sat down with Chris Douridas in observance of their new album, Mars Audiac Quintet. Along the way, they discuss influences from Martin Denny to Throbbing Gristle; the band’s serendipitous discovery of the Farfisa organ; and the potential of pop music to redress political and personal power.
