Alabama eight-piece St.Paul & The Broken Bones are prone to dabbling in shadowy psychedelics and boundary-pushing R&B. Their new album, Angels In Science Fiction, finds them pushing the limits of their expansive sound simultaneously further outward and inward, with their ambitious instrumentation forming a bedrock for heart-wrenching lyrics — initially penned as letters to frontman Paul Janeway’s newborn child.
