Jimetta Rose & The Voices of Creation: KCRW Live from HQ
Intimate performances, fresh sounds, and candid conversations with a view.
South Central native Jimetta Rose is a self-described “singer, writer, and visionary.” In a 2021 profile for VoyageLA, Rose continues: “I specialize in crafting emotion, melody, and language. I am most proud of creating my choir Voices of Creation, a safe space for people to sing songs together that heal.”
This is music for healing, raising hands to, dancing in the aisles to, and delivering a standing ovation for — all of which happen routinely whenever the choir takes to the stage. It’s soul music in the deepest sense of the word — equally as inspired by church choirs as it is spiritual jazz luminaries like Sun Ra and and Pharaoh Sanders.
Witness it for yourself in the exuberant video above as The Voices of Creation elevate KCRW’s Annenberg Performance Studio to a higher plane of existence with songs like “Portals,” “Let The Sun Shine In,” and “Everyday Blessings.” Then invigorate your spirit by watching the interview below as Rose gets into it with KCRW’s Anne Litt about joy, spirituality, and responsibility.
