UK musical juggernaut Oasis’ tumultuous career came to an end in 2009, as the oft-contentious relationship between the brothers Gallagher finally made it impossible for the band to continue. As guitarist Noel Gallagher embarks on a solo career, vocalist Liam Gallagher retained the services of fellow Oasis members Gem Archer and Andy Bell and touring drummer Chris Sharrock to form a new project called Beady Eye. Comparisons with their prior band are inevitable and, frankly, absolutely appropriate as the epic pop melodies that made Oasis a world-wide favorite are in full effect on this “new” band’s debut release. If it were still in question, the fact that there is a song called “Beatles and Stones” should make it perfectly clear where their influences lie. But echoes of other classic British rock acts, from the Hollies and the Kinks, to T. Rex and the La’s, add further color to their kaleidoscopic sound. With their efforts under the scrutiny of the critical eyes and ears of millions of Oasis fans, Beady Eye have definitely brought their A-game.
