KCRW is the first radio station to offer a stream of Vampire Weekend’s highly anticipated sophomore release “Contra” in its entirety as part of KCRW’s Album Preview series. The stream is up now at KCRW.com/albumpreview and will be available untilJanuary 18.

ALSO, KCRW will host a special live performance by the band –with a horn AND string section — on Morning Becomes Eclectic next Monday, January 11 at 11:15am PST.

We started spinning Vampire Weekend the morning after their live debut in LA at the Troubadour, after downloading tracks from their My Space page. Now, their sophomore release is one of the most anticipated albums of the year! Singer Ezra Koenig says material on “Contra” was very much influenced by California, deeming it the “spiritual home” for the record. Catchy and kinetic, their new songs retain the energy that made their afro-pop-influenced debut so refreshing. The addition of deeper lyrical themes and new sounds – from Dancehall to Brazilian baile funk – make this set of songs unique yet entirely their own.

Don’t miss this stream! RR
