It’s an unusual summer in the land of Pan Caliente. The warm weather usually brings with it some party bangers, however, 2019 seems to be a summer of downtempo sexiness!
The releases that have really caught our ear, have an organic convergence of great global sounds intertwined with multicultural pop. All of them are delicately entrancing and the artists are deliciously bilingual.
New York is no stranger to multiculturalism and the Colombian duo Salt Cathedral have beautifully crafted a bilingual sound to get your head bobbing. Juliana Ronderos moves so effortlessly between languages that you almost don’t realize their single, "muévelo," released this past June is fully bilingual (not to mention infectious).
We head down to Guatemala to the exquisite downtempo outfit Easy Easy. They're equal parts indie, r&b, pop, and also… bilingual. Don’t know much more about these guys other than I have been hypnotized by their groove on "Look at Me," off their 2018 release, Los Veo todo (Lo Siento) and that I can’t wait to hear more.
Jona Camacho is an extremely talented 20-something r&b multi-instrumentalist, whose sultry and emotionally rhythmic r&b commands your attention. His track "Dulce Vino" has amassed 7 million streams on Spotify and that’s just a preview for the Colombian artist (soon to be a big star). We caught his LA debut at last month and he blew the entire room away!
Let's bring it back to Los Angeles, where future-soul songstress, Welfair, brings us some mellow 420-inspired sounds on her latest single, "Recreational." It’s got a ballad inspired synth melody that leads into her sensual vocals and then takes off into an airy chorus that showcases Welfair’s vocal range. She’ll be performing at the Hi Hat for chido/chevere/cool on July 24th, and we cannot wait to vibe to her soulful and delicate grooves.
