It’s going to be another hot one this weekend, so it will be well within your best interests to lean into the heat by checking out what are sure to be sizzling performances from Rodrigo y Gabriela, Natalia LaFourcade, and KCRW DJ José Galván at the Annenberg Space for Space for Photography. This is THE last night of KCRW’s Sound in Focus Series for 2017 so it’s bound to be a particularly special night! It’s a free show, but you can (and should) still RSVP here.
P.S. The Annenberg always tends to have a really nice cross breeze.
Speaking of that cross breeze, and mentally manifesting all things cool this week, allow me to introduce you to several tracks that are guaranteed to give you all of the chills.
Alvvays – “Dreams Tonite”
Canadian indiepop band Alvvays have (ahem) always seemed to set their phasers to “max chills inducement” – see their 2014 breakthrough “Archie, Marry Me” for definitive proof. This second single from their forthcoming record Antisocialites manages to take this specific skill set to even further heights. Seriously, the chorus is “If I saw you on the street, would I have you in my dreams tonight?” Even if it feels like it will be 110 degrees in your apartment from now until the end of time, this song will have you curled up on the couch with a blanket and a mug of tea in no time.
Sudan Archives – “Come Meh Way”
Sudan Archives is a Los Angeles based, self taught vocalist/violinist/songwriter. She is the actual epitome of cool.
Nine Inch Nails – “The Lovers”
Trent Reznor has had quite the career. He might be as well known these days for his work on films such as The Social Network, and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo as he is for his biggest hits with Nine Inch Nails – “Closer,” “Hurt,” “Head Like a Hole,” etc. This blisteringly icy new track is a wonderful addition to his cannon, and it’s guaranteed to make you shiver through even the gnarliest summer heat wave.
