Mayer Hawthorne at KCRW

When I first heard “A Long Time”, I could’ve sworn it was Steely Dan!

But no, its Mayer Hawthorne, back with a new single just in time for summer.

The song will be on his sophomore full length “How Do You Do”,to be released on Universal Republic later this year (he recently announced his move from local label Stones Throw to the major label). The Detroit soul singer made his U.S. radio debut on KCRW back in September 2009 and we were all over his debut long before he reached international stardom.

I think we’ve all been anxiously waiting to see what would come next. He gave us a hint last year with the excellent “No Strings,” a track produced by LA DJ duo Classixx, which you can hear here.

Mayer is currently touring with Bruno Mars and Janelle Monae, including a show at the Gibson Amphitheatre on Sunday, June 12. Happy to have him back and excited for more.
