We’re thrilled to announce an all-star lineup of bands for our official showcases at SXSW this year!
There’s no better place to stumble across a new band or watch an artist you already love make an impact. We’re betting on this crew!
Join us if you will be in Austin and stay tuned for special programming from the fest, including live performances from the bands below.
**These are official showcases open to anyone with a festival badge or wristband.**
Our night showcase features many of the genres we love at KCRW all in one place– Rock, Americana, Future Soul, Pop and Electronica included.
Seattle duo ODESZA were a huge hit across KCRW’s airwaves with the infectious electro-pop songs on “In Return”. They can also claim the title of one of the most booked bands on the summer festival circuit this year!
DELTA SPIRIT are also road warriors and never cease to amaze with their live shows, which is why we asked them to join our lineup immediately after their most recent performance on Morning Becomes Eclectic. They just keeping getting better and better (which I why I’ll forgive them for moving away from SoCal. sniff sniff, wipes tear)
KCRW had BIG DATA’s breakout single “Dangerous” on regular rotation far before others caught on. It grabbed us immediately and we’re looking forward to what Alan Wilkis has ahead on his new album “2.0” – out the week after SX — which will feature guest turns from Twin Shadow, White Sea, and many others.
Grammy-nominated future soul band HIATUS KAIYOTE will debut new material from their upcoming sophomore album “Choose Your Weapon”. They channel so many genres, with a jazzy feel that truly sets them apart from the pack. That, and the incredible vocals and stage presence of singer Nai Palm.
BØRNS is on track to be one of LA’s breakout artists this year, armed with his “Candy” EP of undeniably catchy pop songs and tons of charisma on stage. I saw him at The Echo earlier this year and was blown away. There were some excellent songs he played live that aren’t even available yet, which make him a must-see artist of the moment. This guy is ready for stardom!
I was smitten the first time I heard his first single.
London rockers WOLF ALICE made their U.S. radio debut with an impressive performance on KCRW last week and are currently on tour with Alt-J.
We’ll hit the Radio Day Stage at the Austin Convention Center from 2-5pm with German duo MILKY CHANCE . They can claim one of the catchiest songs of the year and they’ve found a unique musical spot merging folk songwriting and reggae vibes and we can’t wait to see it live!
Singer-songwriter JAMES BAY has been dubbed an “Artist to Watch “ by just about everyone (BBC, Spotify, and Shazam included) for his captivating songs and beautiful voice. He has a new album out on March 24.
LAURA MARLING‘s new album “Short Movie” is also out that week and we’ll get a preview of new songs. With her first two singles, it’s clear she’s moving boldly away from her acoustic beginnings and picking up the momentum. It’s great.
