We’re all big fans of Morrissey here at KCRW and, after about 10 years of trying, Morning Becomes Eclectic producer Ariana Morgenstern was finally able to book him for a Guest DJ set while Nic Harcourt was hosting the show in 2008. Despite his general distaste for modern music — which he describes as all hype and no substance — his first song choice as Guest DJ was “What Took You So Long,” by a new four-piece called The Courteeners. His love for the band was infectious and Nic starting spinning the single. Now, we’re happy to offer up the UK group’s new CD “Falcon” as our Album Preview!

The band hails from the music-rich city of Manchester and has a substantial following in the UK. The quartet take a huge leap forward with their sophomore release, with tracks meandering from catchy pop songs to synth-based dance beats to stark acoustic ballads. The through line is that it is a truly beautiful record.

The album will be available streaming on demand until July 7.
