Arthur Verocai: Amor Na Contra Mao from Encore (re-issue)
In 2007, Brazilian composer, arranger and producer Arthur Verocai put out an album that many consider his masterpiece, Encore. The 11 original compositions featured guest artists and a nine-piece string section, culminating in a modern classic that combined Brazilian influences with his interpretations of American soul. A special edition on vinyl has just been released to honor the album’s tenth anniversary. It contains “Amor Na Contra Mao.”

New Mystics: Rebels from Smile with Your Teeth
Josh Onstott is best known for his work with the Oklahoma-based band Other Lives. A new transplant to Los Angeles, he stretches out with a side project called New Mystics. “Rebels” is the first track from his debut full length, scheduled to drop in August.

Iron & Wine: Call It Dreaming from Beast Epic
Late August promises a full-length album by Iron & Wine as well as a chance to experience his songs live when he plays a ton of shows across the US. After a four year hiatus from recording, Beast Epic leans toward the more intimate nature of his past recordings as we hear on “Call It Dreaming.“

After years as Jenny Lewis’ back-up singer and keyboardist, Tristen is back with her third album. The songs, recorded in her home studio, act as snapshots on universal themes. The melodic “Clandestine” is but one example.
