Chris Douridas joined Jason Bentley during Morning Becomes Eclectic this morning to pay tribute to J.J. Cale, who passed away last week at the age of 74.
Cale is best known as the legendary songwriter of hits by Eric Clapton, Lynyrd Skynyrd and more.
We played highlights from a classic interview and live performance recorded at KCRW almost exactly 19 years ago, in 1994.
As J.J. told Chris, “I’ve never tried to showcase myself as a performer. The song is what I really do”.
The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter was hugely influential and its fascinating how modest he was about his work.
Check out live versions of “Cajun Moon” and “They Call Me The Breeze” recorded at the station and more.
