KCRW Presents
"Third Thursdays" with Sasha Berliner with Luca Mendoza, Max Gerl & Christian Euman

A former rock drummer turned vibraphonist, Sasha Berliner discovered her passion for the instrument while attending Oakland School for the Arts. Her early musical development was shaped by her experience at the Stanford Jazz Workshop, where a performance caught the attention of trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire, leading her to study under renowned vibraphonist Stefon Harris at The New School in NYC. Sasha quickly gained momentum on the jazz scene, performing at major festivals like Winter Jazz Fest, Atlanta Jazz Fest, and Burlington Jazz Fest before age 20. In 2019, she became the first U.S. recipient of the LetterOne “Rising Stars” Jazz Award, which launched her debut tour and led to her acclaimed first album Azalea—a genre-defying, politically conscious work that marked her distinctive voice in contemporary jazz.
