The Wachowskis found a kindred spirit in their Cloud Atlas co-writer/director Tom Tykwer. He had been on their radar ever since his 1999 film, Run Lola Run, opened within a few months of The Matrix. Andy Wachowski notes how he was absolutely blown away by how much story Tykwer was able to cram into the 90-minute Lola. The Wachoski's also have a knack for telling sprawling stories at breakneck speed, and so Cloud Atlas, based on the novel by David Mitchell, seemed like the perfect opportunity for collaboration. This special live recording of The Treatment was taped after a KCRW screening of Cloud Atlas at ArcLight Hollywood. Elvis talks to all three directors about their childhoods, their collaboration process, and the films that influenced them most.
