- Cannes will open with the Woody Allen film Cafe Society this year. That's not news in itself, but this is the film that Amazon Studios paid $15 million for -- a very high price for an indie. It’s strange to think about an Amazon movie opening the famous festival. Everyone is waiting to see whether Amazon and Netflix will be able to successfully distribute movies theatrically.
