Following the outcry over the second year in a row of all white Oscar nominees in the acting categories, the Academy announced major changes in their structure and voting regulations. The board said their goal is to double the number of women and diverse members in the Academy by 2020. Several African American filmmakers and actors, including Spike Lee and Will and Jada Pinkett Smith have said they will not attend this year’s ceremony.
