Hollywood News Banter: Were Emmy nominations just business as usual?

Hosted by
  • Emmy nominations are out, and HBO has at least for this year bested rival Netflix. Nominations for shows like ‘Fleabag’ and ‘Schitt’s Creek’ show the depth of quality tv that is out there now. Film stars like Julia Roberts and Jim Carrey were largely snubbed for their small screen roles this season. And documentary series races look to be some of the most interesting and odd for this awards season.
  • And, as streaming services rev up, media companies seem to be making deals with themselves, which will happen with upcoming streaming service HBO Max as Warner Brothers, which created Friends, will sell it to HBO Max. But these companies don’t want to be litigating themselves, so studios are starting to involve talent in deals where a streaming company is buying a show from its studio, so the talent doesn’t sue.
