Matt Welch is the editor at-large of Reason, a monthly libertarian magazine as well as the co-author of The Declaration of Independents: How Libertarian Politics Can Fix What's Wrong with America and author of McCain: The Myth of the Maverick. In their conversation, Welch tells Robert Scheer what it means to be a libertarian and how libertarians and progressives intersect in multiple ways. He also talks about libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson and why he believes Johnson continues to poll well in spite of third party candidates historically receding as the election nears. And finally, Welch tells Scheer how he believes the government continues to use any type of crisis to justify asserting additional power.
