There was a spur-of-the-moment meeting today between civil rights activists and the deputy commissioner of the California Highway Patrol. That’s as community activists continue to call for a full federal probe into an incident caught on video last week. Footage shows a woman being beaten by a CHP officer on the side of the 10 Freeway by a patrol officer. CHP says it had been chasing down the woman, named Marlene Pinnock. On that video, we see the officer throw her to the ground and then punch her in the head several times. The officer is white; Pinnock is black. CHP says they are investigating, but that the video only captured part of the incident, and that Pinnock was endangering herself and others. The CHP officer has been put on administrative leave.
