President-elect Donald Trump has stated that one of his top priorities is the overhaul of the nation's infrastructure. That goal prompted the American Institute of Architects to fire off a memo within hours of Trump's election victory, stating its commitment to working with him "to address the issues our country faces, particularly strengthening the nation's aging infrastructure." Many AIA members erupted in fury and now the Institute has issued an apology, but the fight raises questions about the ethical role of professional associations as well as what form the nation's infrastructure should take.
