Sea Monsters is a fascinatingly consistent and exquisitely shaped novel by Chloe Aridjis. Needing to get away and reinvent herself, seventeen year-old Luisa flees Mexico City for coastal towns, running away with a boy in order to discover more about life. From shipwrecks she learns secrets of the deep, and how elements of her life talk to each other in mysterious ways. She begins to understand the nature of her adolescent self. The narrative surface searches the depths of being human, and beckons readers to find the world endlessly meaningful.
