The U.S.-Mexican border is a highly charged area. One Santa Barbara artist is taking that charge to a more literal level. In her most recent installation, called Border Control, Yara El-Sherbini uses a classic game called Buzz wire to wrestle with physical, social and political border issues. KCRW’s Jonathan Bastian stopped by the Museum of Contemporary Art to speak with El-Sherbini about her playful take on a powerful debate.
El-Sherbini’s playful interdisciplinary practice often uses familiar objects and social events to engage people into questioning social and political systems of power and influence.
She’ll be speaking at the Museum of Contemporary Art this evening from 6-7pm. You can learn more here.
