KCRW brings a unique mix of music, events, news, and cultural content to curious communities around the corner and around the world. We are NPR’s flagship member station in Southern California and a non-profit public media organization. Through our 18-month Report LA Fellowship program we look to diversify public media newsrooms of the future and grow the next generation of journalistic talent.

The Report LA Fellowship program provides professional development through hands-on experiences, access to networking opportunities, and mentorship from some of our top professionals on staff. Fellows contribute to KCRW’s news coverage from day one and learn every aspect of public radio journalism including news and culture show production, audio field recording, reporting news stories, and digital writing. Fellows have access to the vast cultural resources of Southern California and the opportunity to develop their capacity and grow their passions.

KCRW hosts a cohort of two Report LA Fellows at a time. Our current fellows are with us until February 2025.

Prior her fellowship at KCRW, Chiriguayo worked at Marketplace, where she reported digital-first features and trend-based stories and helped develop short-form content. When she isn't working, she can be found riding public transit, listening to disco, and yearning for her next cup of coffee.

Angel Carreras
Report LA Fellow 2019 - 2021

Angel Carreras is a producer on the NPR show Planet Money. As a freelance podcast producer and award-winning storyteller he previously worked on projects for Higher Ground Media, Crooked Media, Bad Robot, and as a full-time producer at the Los Angeles Times.

Prior to his fellowship at KCRW, Carreras was a reporter for the Santa Monica Daily Press.
