The documentary Blackfish comes down hard on Sea World, the amusement park where captive killer whales are trained and put through their paces. The film claims the animals are treated so cruelly that they turn against humans, which is not part of their nature. Last Wednesday, Sea World’s stock dropped 33% after its earnings report failed to meet expectations. On Friday, the company announced that it’s doubling the size of the tanks where its killer whales live. But it’s adamant in denying that’s a reaction to Blackfish. KCRW producer Benjamin Gottlieb spoke with Dave Koontz, a spokesman for Sea World in San Diego.
